Ts. Dr. Mohd Shahrul Nizam bin Mohd Danuri has graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in Information Management in May 2017. Currently, he is working as a senior lecturer at Selangor International Islamic University College (KUIS), teaching Information Technology subjects. He has contributed greatly to the university in various aspects such as introducing the technology of teaching and learning to his fellow colleagues, university manuscripts reviewer, several seminar committee members, workshop speakers and so forth. In addition, he is also appointed as the Mendeley Advisor and actively conducting research in Information Technology especially in the discipline of Information Systems, Data Science, Internet of Things (IoT), and Technology in Agriculture.
Ts. Dr. Mohd Shahrul Nizam is the son of Mohd Danuri bin Warno and Sabaryah binti Ahmad. The second child of the 3 siblings was born on Friday, 23 March 1979 in Sungai Petani, Kedah. He is the father of 2 children, Nur Fathaen Arynee and Muhammad Irham Shafy after being married to his wife, Rohizah binti Abd Rahman. He received his early education at Sekolah Kebangsaan Rahang, Seremban and continued his secondary education at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Sheikh Haji Mohd Said, Seremban. His deep interest in computer and information technology has led him to pursue his Bachelor of Computer Science degree at Universiti Sains Malaysia. Then he was offered a full scholarship from the Prime Minister’s Department to further his studies in Master of Intellectual Property at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
His career started in 2002 as a System Development Engineer at Creative System Consultant Sdn. Bhd. which is based in Technology Park Malaysia, Bukit Jalil. He has developed several systems for customers such as Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad, Subang Jaya Municipal Council, and MMC-Gamuda Bhd. He was then given the opportunity to work as a System Engineer at Leadcom Technologies Sdn Bhd which focuses on providing educational software and network equipment for public and private sectors. His career expanded when he was offered to work at a Singapore-based multi-national company, ANTlabs Pte. Ltd. The company involved with the first commercial wireless technology provider project in Malaysia which is operated by TM Net Sdn. Bhd. He gained various new experiences on wireless network and communications technology and was given opportunities to provide consultations in several Southeast Asian countries such as the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore.
In 2008, he was entrusted in serving corporate world as the Chief Technology Officer to develop a research-based project on modern agricultural technology in Malaysia. Equipped with knowledge and expertise in the system development, networks and intellectual property, he has successfully developed the Wireless Sensor Network and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies for Wireless Soil Moisture Sensor (WSM), Smart Unmanned Nursery (SUN) and Fertigation Management System (FMS). Throughout his services, he has earned a research grant of RM150,000.00 under the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDEC), now known as the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC). He also obtained a commercialisation grant from Cradle Fund Sdn. Bhd. with the total of RM500,000.00 to market several technology products for agriculture. Throughout handling the company, he has done research collaborations with several agencies such as the Department of Agriculture and Faculty of Agriculture, Universiti Putra Malaysia. He was also appointed as an external appraiser panel for the final year student at Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia for 3 years. In addition, he is a committee member in developing standards and guidelines for the Wireless Sensor Network in Malaysia under the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
He pursued his PhD in Information Management at the Faculty of Information Management, Universiti Teknologi MARA in August 2011. Registration has been done with full time mode while he is still working. This had made it difficult for his studies for over a year. However, his supervisor, Prof. Madya Dr. Mohd Sazili bin Shahibi has always supported and encouraged him to continue his studies. On the basis of the time factor and the focus to be given, he decided to resign and leave the corporate world to focus solely on his studies. He is very grateful and indebted to the main supervisor, Professor Dr. Mohd Sazili bin Shahibi, co-supervisor, Dr. Mohd Razilan bin Abdul Kadir, members of the Information Management Faculty, Graduate Studies Institute (IPSis) and MyBrain15 fund provided by the Ministry of Higher Education.
Throughout his studies, he has successfully produced several publications including 1 Scopus journal, 4 presentation papers on seminars and 1 intellectual property creation under the copyright of the software that has been registered with the Research Innovation Business Unit (RIBU), UiTM. He also won the Gold Medal and Special Award under the postgraduate category in the innovation competition at the International Competition and Exhibition on Computing Innovation (iCE-CInno 2016) organised by Universiti Malaysia Pahang through the development of Farm Management Information Systems (FMIS) for smallholder farmers in Malaysia. Currently, he has successfully published several articles in SCIE-WOS Q1, ESCI-WOS, and SCOPUS journals.
He was also held the position of Dean, Faculty of Science and Information Technology from 2017 to 2021. He is currently holding the position of Director, Learning Center in the university starting April 1, 2021.
